Training: Gently Does It

A steady recovery ride after the heavier exercise of Friday and Saturday. Pleasingly I maintained an average of 103bpm, but still held a reasonable pace (average 24.4kmh). Despite mostly being on the river path, the route wasn't pan flat. 224m of climbing over 27km is a little below the 1/10 ratio which is the baseline …

There and Back Again

A two day ride, from Dad's back to Devon and then back to Dad's to collect my car. Roughly 145km and 1600m of climbing each way, so a total of 290km and 3200m. The climbing is concentrated in the half of the ride closest to home, where the route crosses several river valleys, and the …

My LEL Schedule of Lies

A customisable schedule for LEL

About me

Hello, I'm Chuffy. Another chubby middle-aged bloke who rides bikes. I've been riding long distance for over 20 years, but my fitness, fatness and enthusiasm wax and wane, so my forays into the really long stuff have been sporadic. I did an SR series in 2012, LEL in 2013 and the Mersey Roads 24hr TT in 2014. In 2022 I lost shedloads of flab and got back on the bike properly, but life got in the way. This year I'm back on it and determined to make a decent stab at LEL, another SR series and the Mersey Roads in 2026. Reasonable goals for a mediocre athlete, but perhaps something other people can relate to!
